Carcassonne

My first real excursion from Montpellier:

The city, fortress, and castle of Carcassonne

(More information about Carcassonne)

I am a bit fascinated with gargoyles; unfortunately, not all of them were preserved, and very few still function. Its a shame-- people were rather imaginative back then.

The frescoes aren't bad either but... again, they are difficult to preserve.

These buildings go on for miles and miles- both within the fortress, and outside (you can see them continue in the distance, downhill). Although the castle is a tourist attraction, people still live here.

Honestly I have no idea why this model has a big swimming pool in the middle... the town is BEAUTIFUL inside the walls. I would have liked to see them represented here.

Lastly, I would like to say that I couldn't imagine a better group of people to have visited with :) Words can't describe.
